Focus on Talybont

Talybont is a small village about five miles to the north of Barmouth along the A496, main coastal road. Although only a small village, there are many caravan sites and holiday parks around the village, particularly on the seaward side of the A496. Many of these are accessible by Ffordd Bennar, a small lane leading down to the sea from the village.

Talybont Beach near the River

Besides a good stretch of sandy beach and several holiday sites, Talybont  has a Post Office and shop up in the village on the main road, an Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria (Tony's), and a riverside pub and restaurant (The Ysgethin). Among the holiday sites on the small road to the beach are more shops, and two more pub restaurants, Henry's bar on Islawrffordd Holiday Park, and The Sands, which is near the sea and next to Barmouth Bay holiday Village.  Both of these put on regular entertainment and both are open to the public and not exclusive to site residents.  Talybont is a good base for walking (walk along the beach, or follow the River Ysgethin upstream from the village for a start) cycling, sea fishing, freshwater fishing (the River Ysgethin holds small brown trout and the very  occasional sea trout or salmon). Down towards the beach there is an amusement arcade, bingo, fish and chips, Costcutter shop etc. all part of the Sands Leisure Centre.  The Sands Pub and Restaurant put on some lively shows including bands and tribute acts.

Talybont is a good base for visiting many of the attractions of the Barmouth area and is conveniently served by trains and buses. Although Talybont is a very popular holiday destination, it is usually laid back, leisurely paced, easy going and family friendly.  Long may it remain so!
