Next show is not  Friday 30 May 2008, but a week earlier on Friday 23 May, and will include INFERNO and DJ PROVE IT.

INFERNO

BMEX have done it again.  Two fine young bands.   Stone Free from Aberystwyth, certainly not the Hendrix clones I had expected on seeing the name.  Original adventurous catchy rock tunes with plenty of dynamics and effective use of synth sounds.  Professional on and off stage.  There are some good recordings  at www.myspace.com/stonefreeband  or

I approached the Buffs club while Inferno were playing and thought it was a Motorhead track being played through the PA.    The sound is that tight and hard hitting.  High energy is an understatement. All three musicians are more than competent, the drummer is one of the finest I have heard anywhere, providing a seemingly endless supply of imaginative fills, while keeping a driving beat.   If you like powerful, no nonsense rock, bands don't come much better than INFERNO.

Well done Rob for presenting two more outstanding young bands.   Highly recommended to gig goers and other promoters.  Thanks to the BUFFS CLUB and to Dave Hone for sound.

If you think I'm just going to praise every band that plays in Barmouth, and who am I anyway to write this, I earned my living playing music for over twenty years, I've seen all sorts of bands from Black Sabbath to Blondie to the Clash, and these young bands really are impressive.  But if anyone else wants to write reviews,  please send them in, and if they are not offensive they will be uploaded.

MFRU AND GLITTERBALL

OK BMEX is  here to help and encourage up and coming young bands but all four acts on this night were worth seeing in their own right.  Happycore opened up with a varied acoustic set, followed by Soul Explosive, though soul fans would be unlikely to enjoy this gut wrenching metal.  Good band who deserve recognition.  MFRU have been busy recording, and will be touring the USA this year. Competent and enjoyable, reminded me of an Adverts gig I saw 30 years ago, but with lighter moments like the cover of  "500 miles".  Finally Heretica, strong original band with outstanding guitar lines.  I tip them to follow MFRU to the States, but what do I know?  Well done Rob of BMEX for putting on such an outstanding line up. How are you going to follow this?
