Artist at Work and Retrospective Exhibition of Paintings and Sculpture by Bernard Barnes and Recent Work by Reyna Rushton April to September 2011 The Church Hall. St Johns Hill. (opp Station road). Barmouth. Gwynedd Retrospective exhibition by two artists intimately connected to the town for most of their lives. The show contains some work that was originally made when Bernard Barnes had a studio behind Tyn Y Coed 25 years ago. The summer long show covers a huge range of work from a variety of obsessions from 'The Organic City' period to a new interest in the idea of 'the web of connections '. The show includes a group of work concerned with war and violence; travel inspired paintings, visual reflections on philosophy, science, religion, history and human biology inform much of the work. The show is a serious and life long search to find meaning, or make meaning through art. The two artists have filled the space with images and sculptures, with reflections on their meaning so that the large hall with its capacious stage is a dense mass of ideas. The artists may make music between periods of painting and sculpture to the accompaniment of Puppets and Automata with which they have performed in hundreds of towns and cities in Britain, Spain and France.
