THREE PEAKS DAY 2009

Saturday June 20 started off cloudy and rainy, but by the early afternoon the weather had cleared as the crowds came out for the start of the 2009 Barmouth to Fort William Three Peaks Race. Due to the late tide boats did not leave harbour until 5pm for a 6pm start, but there was plenty of activity and entertainment around the town. including several performances by Batala Bermo.  Crowds enjoyed the usual informative and interesting commentary on the quay.  Music was started by the Barmouth Jazz workshop, followed by Odessa's band playing a fine bluesy set, and Donna Lea who sang a fine version of the Zutons' "Valerie".  Children joined in on percussion for Barry's calypso medley and Batala Bermo performed the final set on the breakwater as the boats left harbour.  Sails were soon hoisted and despite the cloudy sky visibility was good and boats could be seen well into the distance on their way to Caernarfon.  Good luck and a safe journey to all.  Thanks to sponsors Powerbar and all involved for putting on this enjoyable day.
