THREE PEAKS DAY 2008

The Barmouth to Fort William Three Peaks Race, now in it's 31st year consists of 389 miles of sailing, 30 miles of cycling, and 60 miles of running.  Boats left Barmouth on a blustery Saturday 28 June, heading for Fort William, stopping only for the runners to ascend Snowdon, Scafell Pike, and finally Ben Nevis.  Entertainment was provided on Barmouth quay by the Buzzards, Mark Stratos, Odessa, and Batala Bangor gave the boats a fine send off, as our own Batala Bermo couldn't make it. I was invited to perform a selection of sea shanties, (Drunken Sailor, Heave her up etc.) and even then it didn't rain!  The boats left the harbour at 3 pm for a 4pm start.   As the boats passed the breakwater, some of the crews could be seen waving goodbye to the crowd,, and a few even danced along to the rhythm of Batala Bangor.

For race reports, results, and more information see www.threepeaksyachtrace.co.uk

Congratulations to overall winners Journeymaker 5 who completed in 2 days 18 hours and 19 minutes, just 19 minutes ahead of EADS Innovation Works.  Hazard Chase, whose stated aim in the official program, was to get to the starting line, finished third!
Next years race is scheduled for 20 June 2009
